In August, Castle Pines Athletics (CPA) hosted a five-day camp designed to welcome families attending American Academy Charter School (AA) to the neighborhood before the school opened its doors in September.

With an extended summer and with students and parents anxiously waiting for the first day of school, many children took the opportunity to reunite with old friends and make some new ones. More than 75 children from AA attended the camp and enjoyed sports, field and water games, crafts, nature hikes and more.

Castle Pines Athletics donated $2,000 of the camp proceeds to the American Academy Foundation to help purchase equipment for the physical education program.

“I am so grateful for the generous donation. The school has spent the last four years dreaming, planning and fundraising for our new school and to finally have a spot where our kids can benefit from everything a full-fledged school building can offer is simply remarkable,” said June Uralli, AA parent.

American Academy’s Coach Joe Bishop led the camp, along with other teachers from the school including Emily Bishop, Michelle Daley, Amanda Smith and Hollie Lusk. Special thanks to parent volunteer Paige Brandon for helping with the camp. Also, thanks to South Metro Fire Rescue station #39, for providing the campers with a fire truck demonstration.
