The Ladies 18-Hole Member and Guests at the Country Club of Castle Pines group recently donated $2,000 to Womenade of Castle Rock, a non profit organization that aids the community of Castle Rock with monetary donations through a caring network of women.

The ladies golf group has hosted The Classic at Castle Pines women’s golf tournament for years and this year’s co-chairpersons, Jan Hanbery and Barb Wendell, took the tournament a step further and added a silent auction to the mix.

“We had so many great donations from jewelry to pieces of art given by our sponsors that a silent auction, rather than a raffle, seemed to be the way to go,” said Hanbery.

After the last ball was hit and the final bid was taken, the money was counted and it came as a bit of surprise that the auction had raised $2,000. The group decided that they wanted to see the money used within the community and Womenade seemed like the perfect partnership.

The gift from the ladies golf group couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. After distributing the monetary gifts from the third quarterly meeting, Womenade received two urgent nominations of families in need.

One family has four sons, two of the sons are fighting cancer without health insurance, and another son has survived a nearly fatal dirt bike accident. The parents were struggling to help their family with rising costs and limited time. The other request was from a single-parent family with a 10-year-old boy undergoing treatment for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Womenade, in conjunction with the ladies golf group was able to award each of these families $1,000.

Since 2004, Womenade of Castle Rock has been meeting quarterly. Caring women from the area get together at a local home for a potluck. Each woman brings a dish to share and a donation of $25. While the women enjoy the fellowship, the money is used to help someone from the community in need. To date, the group has raised more than $35,000 for families in the Castle Rock community.
