Cub Scouts Pack 865 honors veterans

Article and photos by Celeste McNeil

Cub Scout Pack 856 gathered recently to honor veterans and learn about the American flag. American Legion Post 1187 joined the Cub Scouts for the evening, allowing the boys to meet and interact with local veterans.

Together, the young boys learned how to properly fold an American flag. They wrote letters and cards to veterans staying at the VA hospital, and saw service medals, photos and uniforms belonging to the veterans from the American Legion.

Post 1187 has a vested interest in the Castle Pines Cub Scouts. As a chartering organization for the Scouts, the local Castle Rock-based American Legion post ensures the opportunity for any elementary school child to participate in Scouts if desired. The partnership honors two of the American Legion’s four pillars, youth and Americanism.
