WHAT: Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Captain, Newest Graduate from FBI National Academy
Captain Ron Harvey

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY: Douglas County Sheriff David A. Weaver was pleased to announce that a member of his command staff joins the most recent class to graduate from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Investigations Captain Ron Harvey, who on December 12, 2008, was one of two hundred fifty-six law enforcement officers that graduated from the FBI National Academy. The 235th Session included members of law enforcement agencies from the District of Columbia, 26 international countries, four military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations. The program included 11 weeks of advanced investigative, management, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies.

Ron started his law enforcement career with the Sheriff’s Office in 1987. He served in the patrol division and was assigned to the traffic section before being promoted to a Corporal in the Civil Division in 1992. Ron worked as a Corporal in investigations before being promoted to Sergeant in 1998. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2000, and worked in patrol before being assigned to the Rocky Mountain Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory in 2004 as the Assistant Director. He has an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Arapahoe Community College. He was certified by the FBI in 2005 as a Certified Forensic Examiner. Ron was promoted to Captain in January of 2007 and assigned to the Investigations Division.

“I am very proud of Ron’s latest accomplishment. Having been through the program myself, I know how hard it is to be away from your family and job for the eleven weeks. The knowledge he gained will only enhance his leadership skills and definitely have a positive impact on what he offers the Sheriff’s Office”, stated Sheriff Weaver.

A total of 42,204 graduates now represent the FBI National Academy since it began in July 1935. Of this number, approximately 24,692 are still active in law enforcement work. The Sheriff’s Office is honored to have a few of those graduates working for us; Sheriff Dave Weaver, Chief Tony Spurlock, Captain Brad Heyden, Sergeant Jim Jensen, Training Coordinator Tom Cornelius and Reserve Deputy Mike Coleman.
