Furry Scurry is May 1

By Elean Gersack

Fetch your sneakers, grab a leash and bring your furry friends to the 2010 Furry Scurry. This marks the 100th year of The Dumb Friends League (DFL) helping pets and people and has inspired a centennial goal of raising $1 million in donations. The two-mile fun walk/run is planned for 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, at Washington Park in Denver. Registration begins at 7 a.m.

According to the DFL, the funds raised will help provide care for more than 25,000 animals this year. In addition to adopting homeless pets, the DFL offers other services, including lost and found, humane education, animal cruelty investigations, and donor-subsidized spay/neuter for pets in underserved areas.

“Though we hope to see everyone at the Furry Scurry, participation before the event is key—it’s how you can truly make a difference for needy animals in our community,” said Bob Rohde, president and CEO for the Dumb Friends League.

Enjoy refreshments and demonstrations and shop the Flealess Market for pet-friendly merchandise and services from more than 100 vendors. Enter the Pet/Person Look-alike, Best Pet Kisser, Best Tail Wagger and Best Trick contests beginning at 9:45 a.m.

Registration for the event is $50 per person and includes a limited-edition Furry Scurry logo T-shirt. Individuals and company teams are encouraged to register online and collect pledges prior to the event date. For more information, or to register, visit www.ddfl.org or call 303-751-5772.
