Grandfathers know best

Left to right: Owner Steve LeBel, Manager Annette Smith, Kitchen Manager Gerardo Ortiz and General Manager Travis Gross celebrating the grand opening of Anselmo’s Pizzeria & Pasta.

At the newly re-branded Anselmo’s Family Pizzeria & Pasta in the Village Shops, you will notice the year 1909 displayed on the sign. It is the birth year and tribute to owner Steve LeBel’s grandfather, Joseph Anselmo, who made the journey from Sicily to Ellis Island. Steve honors his heritage by following family recipes at the restaurant. When it comes to authentic Italian, grandfathers know best.

The team at Anselmo’s has been by Steve’s side for nearly two decades. The restaurant is anchored by General Manager Travis Gross, Manager Annette Smith and Kitchen Manager Gerardo Ortiz. “It’s been an incredible 18 plus years with this team,” said Travis. “We’ve grown together through so many exciting chapters and changes. I am beyond proud of the team we built together.”

The restaurant prepares many homemade dishes, namely the marinara sauce and salad dressings. The newly expanded menu features a line-up of pastas, hot subs, calzones, salads, appetizers and desserts.

When away from the ovens, life revolves around family for Steve. He met his wife, Carrie, through Travis’s sister. The couple enjoys spending time with their daughters, Madison and Grace, who both graduated from Colorado State University. Steve is a proud grandfather to Collins (5) and Lennon (3). Steve also loves spoiling their beloved basset hounds Gus and Mabel. His hobbies include golf, gardening, skiing and cheering on the Colorado Avalanche and the Denver Broncos. Steve previously coached youth and high school girls lacrosse.

On his days off, Steve continues to be near a flame. “I love cooking outside for my family,” he shared. Whether he is firing up the gas grill, the smoker or outdoor griddle, Steve is always experimenting. Even though he is Italian at heart, Steve prides himself on making a mean fried rice.

Anselmo’s Family Pizzeria & Pasta is located at 880 W Happy Canyon Road. For more information, visit anselmosfamily.com.
