A story of life, love and a few laughs

Barbara Martini Goldy knows how to live life to the fullest. This 84-year-old has plans to keep on soaking up every second of every day. A New York native, Barbara began her career in television. She and husband, Bill, who was a professional baseball player for the Minnesota Twins, moved to Colorado in 1970, living near the Denver Tech Center until their four children went to college. It was then that the couple made the move to The Village at Castle Pines.
The Village called to Barbara years before they made the move. When she worked as the director of public relations at the Sheraton Denver Tech Center, the hotel sponsored a hole at the PGA International at the Castle Pines Golf Club. Barbara would drive down Happy Canyon Road each August to check on things and would say to herself, “Someday, I’m going to live down here.” In 2005, she and Bill made that dream a reality, making fast friends and enjoying their community on Chateau Ridge Lane.
During the pandemic, Barbara began to write a memoir. Barbara said, “With the name of a drink as a maiden name (and my drink of choice), I decided to name the book Happy Hours – a story of life, love and a few laughs.” It tells her story as a city girl becoming a baseball player’s wife and a mother of two boys and two girls, then moving west. It is also the more-than-50-year love story of her and her late husband. She gifted the book to her family on her 80th birthday in 2022.
In early 2025, Barbara and Bill learned about the Reserve at Lone Tree. Barbara said, “We thought it was time to think about downsizing and simplifying our lives. We stopped in the sales trailer and didn’t leave until we had put a deposit down on an apartment.”
Bill passed away in April 2025, but Barbara decided to go ahead with the move last August, becoming one of the first residents at the senior living community. Barbara said, “I knew life would be easier given all the amenities. What I couldn’t have known then was how wonderful the residents would be, how much fun I would have and all the activities I would enjoy.”
Barbara continued, “We cheerfully call ourselves PIPS (previously important people) as we enjoy the friendships formed immediately at the Reserve.”
Barbara is clear on many things, mainly that her life is full of joy: fabulous children, grandchildren and a great grandchild. She said blessings are bountiful.
