Public Works Update

Public works includes street maintenance and lighting, traffic signals and signage, permit processing and related services that help keep the city running smoothly.

As you are no doubt aware, some areas of the community have deteriorating roads, which is due to age and inferior structural pavement design.

City Council has already increased resources targeted to road maintenance. We are stepping up efforts to repair sections of road, particularly along Castle Pines Parkway and Monarch Boulevard and have implemented steps to bring quicker response times and added flexibility to managing repairs.

Eric Guth, Public Works Director, has been tasked with developing a proactive pavement management program that will include patching, repairing and replacement.

This spring, city staff is expected to provide Council an accurate assessment of necessary road repairs, as well as the capital investment required to do so. We will then set priorities for reconstruction, repairs or maintenance. Funding these improvements will be a challenge, since the city has limited revenues through our sales tax and fees.

However, Council is well aware of the problems and has appropriated $100,000 for capital investment, which could be used to address some of the deteriorating streets. Visit www.cpngov.com/contact/report.asp to report a public works problem.
