RCHS offers legalities

by Kathy Dunker

Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) will be holding a legal camp entitled Mock Trial Week from July 25 through July 29 with an exhibition trial on July 30. The week is geared for high school students at all skill levels from those with little or no experience as a trial team competitor to those wishing to hone their skills as a competitor, as well as kids who simply want to sharpen their presentation skills.

Instructors for the week are high school trial team coach, Chris Page, and Federal Trial Attorney, Shane McMahon. The course will provide an authentic court-like view for students considering pre-law and will also provide valuable experience for those interested in business or other careers. Page and McMahon will provide instruction on a one-on-one basis and in group settings to teach participants the basics of trial practice in both criminal and civil areas of the law. Each participant will have the opportunity to try a simulated case as part of a two person team.

Topics for the course include trial plan, opening statements, direct examinations, cross examinations, introduction and use of exhibits, demonstrative evidence, impeachment, and closing arguments. The cost for the week is $600 which includes lunch. Space is limited. To register, please call (303) 688-2700 or register online at OurKidsOurSchools.com.
