Rachel Wright, a seventh grader at Rocky Heights Middle School (RHMS), has juvenile diabetes, and she wants to help stop the disease. Wright was diagnosed in January 2007 and hopes to make a difference for others who suffer from the illness.

Wright decided to participate in the “Share your vision to stop diabetes” video contest, which is currently being sponsored by the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Since she has Tech Ed as one of her electives at RHMS, Wright is quite savvy at creating and editing videos. Wright worked diligently before school in the tech lab, and on her own time to create her recording.

Wright’s heartfelt story can be seen on-line by going to YouTube.com and entering the search “Rachel Stop Diabetes.” The video is also currently on the ADA website. As Wright says, “I want to raise awareness about how diabetes affects people. It’s not just a small disease, a lot of people have it.”
