Start the holiday season with Castle Rock’s annual starlighting ceremony
The star atop Castle Rock represents far more than the coming of the holiday season. The annual starlighting ceremony and holiday activities will be held Saturday, November 23, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Castle Rock merchants and business leaders invite the public to join in celebrating the start of the holiday season with the annual “Lighting of the Star” event on Saturday, November 23, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Castle Rock.
This year’s celebration will include carriage rides, hot chocolate, vendor booths, live entertainment, and a visit from Santa Claus. The Rink at the Rock, Castle Rock’s outdoor ice skating rink, will be open for the season and the Castle Rock Fire Department will host a chili dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The starlighting ceremony will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the actual lighting of the star at 5:30 p.m. The lighting of the star tradition dates back to 1935, when the original 45-foot tall star was constructed and lit during the Great Depression. The star’s rich tradition has been well documented and, like the American flag that stands beside it atop the rock, has been a symbol of perseverance, dedication and even victory throughout the years.
