Steve Boand wins Commissioner Primary

Douglas County elections officials verified on Friday night that Steve Boand of Castle Rock had defeated Jeff Wasden of Highlands Ranch in the hotly contested race for District II‚s Republican County Commissioner slot.

Just 54 votes separated the two, which exceeds the amount required for an automatic recount. Of 18,326 votes cast, Boand received 6,699 and Wasden took 6,645. Wasden said he has no plans to challenge the final count.

Steve Boand will face Democrat Douglas Gilbert (a Castle Pines North resident) in the November general election.

Secretary of state records show that in Douglas County, there are 144,698 registered voters as of July 2004. Republicans comprised 74,815, while 27,472 have registered as Democrats and 42,108 are unaffiliated.
