Third graders are all about moms at Buffalo Ridge

It’s been a tradition at Buffalo Ridge Elementary School (BRE) for a very long time. There is a rumor that this might be the last year. Third grade teachers set aside a morning dedicated to moms to celebrate an early Mother’s Day with a very special brunch. This year, the event fell on Friday, May 10.

Busy third grade students spent hours creating keepsake A to Z books by drawing pictures and writing special thoughts all about their own mom using each of the letters from the alphabet. Adorned with sentimental, thoughtful and even downright funny words and phrases, these kiddos made what no Hallmark card can do – a touching memento that will be treasured for a lifetime. Many tears were shed for sure.

“Most of the pages were very funny and had great perspective. There was lots of laughter in the room. It was very interesting to see me through the eyes of a nine-year-old!” said mom Laurie Jacobs.

In addition to the books, students artfully decorated one-of-a-kind plates. On that plate, the moms enjoyed a homemade brunch thoughtfully prepared by the teachers themselves and then served by their child.

For all of the moms, it was certainly a morning filled with priceless moments that will be remembered forever. On behalf of all of the moms who have had the opportunity to take part in this wonderful tradition at BRE … thank you, third grade teachers!
