We have playgrounds!

Information submitted by the American Academy PTO

Finally, after four years of dreaming, planning, fundraising and an incredible two day community build, the American Academy parent teacher organization (PTO) is thrilled to reveal our new playgrounds.

In late August, more than 250 parent, staff and community volunteers worked more than 1,100 combined hours to build new playgrounds at the new school.

The two-day event consisted of unpacking a 53’ semi-trailer of equipment, pre-assembling it by hand (thousand of bolts/screws), drilling and filling 91 holes with over 28,000 pounds of cement (mixed by hand) and the final construction of the components.

Then last, but certainly not least, there was the ground surface finishing which consisted of laying two layers of nearly 10,000 sq. ft. of Geo-tex fabric, and spreading 221 tons of sand and 400 cubic yards of engineered wood fiber.

Thank you to all who volunteered; you are amazing and we hope you enjoyed your opportunity to make a true hands-on contribution to our school.
