Xcel Energy to Install Second Set of Power Lines

by Lane Roberts

Xcel Energy will be installing the second set of power lines along the eastern corridor of Castle Pines North (CPN) in September.

According to Anne MacRae, spokesperson for Xcel Energy, all permits for the second set of power lines have been obtained from Douglas County. MacRae said some preliminary groundwork will begin in the power line corridor this summer and residents can expect to see some construction in the area.

As of press time, construction in the power line corridor was being conducted by IREA. IREA currently owns the smallest set of power lines in the corridor and these lines are not expected to change in the near future. When Xcel replaces the center set of power lines, they will be identical to the largest set of power lines which were replaced in February, 2005.

Thanks to years of efforts by the CPN Master Association and various residents, the Public Utility Commission did agree with CPN on several key legal points related to noise pollution from these lines.
