Changes for drivers with a learner’s permit

Information provided by Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles made changes to who can sign a permit holder’s drive time logs with the implementation of the Driver’s License Electronic Renewal Act (HB21-1139).

The new law allows more people to sign a permit holder’s drive time logs. Now the permit holder’s drive logs can be signed by a parent or guardian, or by a responsible adult, even if they were not the person who signed the soon-to-be-driver’s affidavit of liability. Prior to passing this new law, the signatory of the affidavit of liability had to also be the signatory of the drive logs.

Requirements for drive time logs vary depending on the age of the permit holder. For a complete list, visit https://dmv.colorado.gov/minor-license.
