Colorado Day and 150th birthday events

Colorado Day is Saturday, August 1, the date the state entered the union in 1876. This year is special as it marks Colorado’s 150th birthday. Events and celebrations for this milestone day and year are happening across the state. Here are some:

Castle Rock

At Philip S. Miller Park, 1375 Plum Creek Parkway, celebrate with a festival and concert August 1. The festival runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a cornhole tournament, a 5K trail run and one-mile fun run, music and more. Admission is free. A ticketed concert featuring Fitz and The Tantrums rounds out the day from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, visit crgov.com/250150Events.

Highlands Ranch

The community’s Colorado 150 Celebration is 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. August 1 at the Highlands Ranch Town Center, 9315 Dorchester Street. Admission is free. The celebration includes music, Colorado-themed vendors, local eats and craft beverages. To learn more, visit hrcaonline.org and search “Colorado 150.”

Denver

On August 1 at 5 p.m., the Longer Tables organization hosts the Mile Long Table, a single, long table for people from all social backgrounds to share a meal. This ticketed event is at the National Western Center, 4701 Marion Street, with dinner, music, birthday cake, art and surprises. For additional information, visit milelongtable.org.

Through the “150 Tables Across Colorado” program, the Longer Tables organization invites individuals, organizations and cities statewide to set their own long table and provides a planning kit and training for organizers. For more information, visit 150coloradotables.com.

The History Colorado Center, 1200 Broadway, is featuring a special exhibit: “38th Star: Colorado Becomes the Centennial State.” The exhibit explores Colorado’s journey to statehood. To learn more, visit historycolorado.org/exhibit/38th-star.

Sedalia

The Sedalia Museum and Gardens at 4037 Platte Avenue, in association with the History Colorado 150 endeavor, is featuring exhibits all summer about happenings in Colorado and the nation during the past 150 years, including transportation, communication and commerce. Colorado Springs

Running through November at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, 215 South Tejon Street, the lecture series “We the People: Colorado at 150” explores diverse experiences and voices of Coloradans. To learn more, visit cspm.org and search “We the People.”

Other events across Colorado

The America 250 – Colorado 150 Commission is sponsoring many programs and events statewide, including the 14er Climb: Summit 2026 challenge; the Digital Passport Program: Journey Through Colorado; and the Historic Markers: History Where It Happened program. The 14er climb is August 1, orchestrated in partnership with the Colorado Office of Outdoor Recreation. In partnership with the Colorado Tourism Office, the passport program encourages participants to explore the state with check-ins at sites to earn rewards, badges, and special offers. The historic marker initiative will place up to 150 new historic roadside markers across the state, as identified, researched and proposed by local organizations, historians and residents.
