Dear Mrs. A – November 2025

Dear Mrs. A.,

Kindly give us a refresher on Veterans Day coming up on November 11.

Dear Holly,

Thank you for this thoughtful inquiry. Let’s start with a quick reminder on the distinction of Veterans Day. Veterans Day is a fixed holiday and always falls on November 11, the date of the World War I armistice with Germany. Another distinction would include the honoring of all who have served in the United States Armed Forces, including anyone who has previously served, whether during war or peace, and is no longer on active duty. It is a day to thank veterans for their service and sacrifice.

Those currently serving are recognized on a different day, Armed Forces Day. And those who perished in military service are officially honored on Memorial Day.

It can be confusing, but no one will take offense if you express gratitude to anyone serving or who has served.

Keep your comments sincere and brief. Here are a few examples: “Thank you for your service;” “I am grateful for the sacrifices you and your family have made;” “I hope you feel honored today for all you’ve given.” Avoid saying “Happy Veterans Day.”

Other meaningful gestures can include donating or volunteering with a veterans organization, supporting veteran-owned businesses, sending handwritten notes or cards (especially meaningful to older vets or those in care facilities) or attending a local Veterans Day event or parade.

Doing our best!

Big Love,

Mrs. A.
