Discovery Channel to cover 8th Annual Miles for Moms Run/Walk

By Patte Smith

Surrey Ridge resident Jean Griswold is recruiting neighbors, friends and families in the Castle Pines and surrounding area to join “Team Zonta” to run or walk at the 8th Annual Miles for Moms Run/Walk to benefit Florence Crittenton Services. This event will be held at Sloan’s Lake Park in Denver at 8 a.m. on Mother’s Day weekend, May 12.

The Miles for Moms Run/Walk, referred to as “creating a cycle of success,” is a fundraiser for Florence Crittenton Services, which offers pregnant and parenting teens assistance. Services include an early learning center and family engagement center so that these young women can finish high school, lessons on how to parent, and direction toward becomming productive citizens. During the past three years, eighty-six percent of students who attended Florence Crittenton during their senior year graduated with a high school diploma.

The Miles for Moms Run/Walk will be filmed by the Discovery Channel for a documentary series on Florence Crittendon High School. During the past three years, eighty-six percent of students who attended Florence Crittenton during their senior year graduated with a high school diploma.

In 2010, ninety percent of graduates enrolled in a post-secondary education program or obtained employment with potential for career growth. A Young Dads program is also offered through the organization’s services to help with self-confidence and to prepare them for attaining and retaining employment through programs such as pre-employment counseling, parenting classes, work experiences, tutoring, and GED support.

Griswold is the captain of “Team Zonta” and has organized the group that will be walking along side hundreds of supporters who believe in celebrating moms from all walks of life.  To the moms whose lives are touched by the work of Florence Crittenton Services, it also means creating a cycle of success for their families.

Please consider supporting Griswold in the very worthwhile cause and the mission of Florence Crittenton by joining “Team Zonta” or donating towards the team’s fundraising goal, as the team walks to help teen families. Participants in the 5K timed race, 5k run/walk and 2K walk/stroller division are encouraged to form teams. The event also features a family friendly festival with activities, healthy living vendors, food and beverages, team competitions, a prize drawing, and more.
