Feeding a passion for music

Castle Pines resident Mary Barnes has spent much of her life playing the cello. She does it all as a performer and board member of the Lone Tree Symphony, as well as a local music teacher, wife, mother and businesswoman.

Local resident Mary Barnes does it all. Aside from the busy life of being a wife, mother, and businesswoman, Barnes is also a talented member of the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra, and sits on its board as the symphony’s personnel director, vice president, and fundraiser extraordinaire.

For more than twenty years, Barnes has been a classical cellist. She started playing the cello in middle school, and her love for music makes up a huge part of who she is. With her husband Kerry and their three children, Barnes’ work with the symphony is only the beginning – she also runs a successful medical document service and teaches violin, viola, and cello on the side.

The Lone Tree Symphony is part of the Lone Tree Performing Arts Center. When asked how this venue compares to those she has played before, Barnes replied, “This venue, acoustically, is the best venue I have ever played in!” The symphony, with its sixty-plus members, performs four concerts a year with its current season kicking off on October 4.

Barnes was also responsible for creating the 2013 Lone Tree Symphony’s Wine and Cheese Soiree on August 25. This highly-successful event, which was held at Hudson Gardens, featured classical guitarist Ricardo Iznaola and other small ensembles made up of orchestra members. With its success, Barnes is already talking about next year’s plans.

In addition, Barnes is actively recruiting talented local residents to join the Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra. She would love to see more of her fellow Castle Pines residents as members. Perospective musicians can visit the auditions page at www.lonetreesymphony.org and click on the “About” tab or e-mail Barnes at music@barnes.net.
