The ladies of the Castle Pines Village Garden Club thoroughly enjoyed learning about all of the wineries that exist throughout the six different regions of Colorado.  Sommelier and author Paula Mitchell shared her knowledge and love of Colorado wines through stories and photos.

The members of the Castle Pines Village Garden Club (CPVGC) share so much more than a love of gardening.  This wonderful group of women from all over Castle Pines also enjoys donating their time and money to worthy local causes, and they have numerous speakers throughout the year who educate them on everything from nature photography to floral design, to the benefits of excellent wine.

On January 9, Paula Mitchell, a Level II sommelier and author of  “Exploring Colorado Wineries,” spent several hours educating the 34 women in attendance about the Colorado wine regions and each of the 125 Colorado wineries located throughout the state.

Using maps, personal stories and photos, Mitchell brought the wineries to life.  In addition, Mitchell spent time speaking about tasting room exploration, etiquette and vocabulary.

CPVGC Co-Chair Terri Butz was impressed with Mitchell’s knowledge and obvious love of the topic.  “Paula is an engaging speaker and she was well received by the members in attendance.  She sold many copies of her book, and she donated two copies as door prizes, the proceeds of which will benefit the Douglas County Family Crisis Center.”

The CPVGC’s overall goal is to “provide programs that enhance our ‘Home, Hearth and Garden’ in a relaxed atmosphere that promotes socializing and making new friends.”  The event in January was just one example of the exceptional opportunities available to members of the club.
