Make Valentine’s date night a romantic comedy

By Cindy Kessinger

The 1937 musical “Babes in Arms” featured a beautiful valentine song that has been a Valentine’s Day favorite and sung by many greats, including Frank Sinatra. But the lyrics to “My Funny Valentine” are not your typical I love you lyrics. “Your looks are laughable, un-photographable, yet you’re my favorite work of art.” The lyrics poke harmless fun at the valentine.

This month’s date idea offers a fun “sweet comic valentine” night where quite possibly the comedian will be poking fun at all of you valentines. The Comedy Works offers two locations and two great Valentine’s weekends. With Ryan Hamilton at Comedy Works downtown or with Mark Klein at The Landmark Comedy Works, you will be sure to smile with your heart.

The shows open at both locations on Thursday, February 13 at 8 p.m. and run through Saturday, February 15. Along with a night filled with laughing, both Comedy Works locations offer several different valentine packages. The Lover’s Delight includes two tickets, a dozen roses, and a box of heart-shaped chocolates. The My Funny Valentine package includes two tickets and a dozen roses. The Sweet on You package includes two tickets and a box of heart-shaped chocolates. For additional information visit www.comedyworks.com.

Whether you choose the Comedy Works downtown or at the Landmark, there are amazing restaurants near both locations if you decide chocolate is not enough to eat. Start with dinner at the Landmark Comedy Works location, where you will find unique favorites such as Hapa Sushi Grill & Sake Bar or downtown in Larimer Square you have Bistro Vendome or Ted’s Montana Grill, to name a few.

So if you want your valentine to “Stay little Valentine, stay”… then make this my funny Valentine’s Day a day to remember!

Fall in love with your valentine again at Casablanca. The movie “Casablanca” is one of the most romantic movies of all time, winning three academy awards and starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. With its memorable line “Play it Again Sam” and the theme song “As Time Goes By,” it’s no wonder the movie is still a huge favorite today with all audiences!

The Hampton Inn and Suites in Lone Tree has a wonderful Valentine’s Hotel and Movie/Martini package with the Movie and a Martini portion at The Wildlife Experience in Parker.

On February 14 from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., you’ll enjoy two tickets to Casablanca at The Wildlife Experience with access to its first floor museum exhibits, popcorn, two cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, along with a fun trivia game with prizes prior to the movie.

The hotel is also offering complimentary transportation to and from The Wildlife Experience. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres begin at 5:30 p.m. and the feature presentation begins at 7:00 p.m. For additional information visit
