The entrepreneurial spirit is in the air and some Castle Pines ‘tweens are taking advantage by baking up some goodness. Sixth grade friends Cambri Reisig and Maren Clark are head over heals about cupcakes, donuts and cookies, and they have taken their passion to the web and to the streets with a start-up business, Oh Baby Cakes.

Reisig first started baking at an early age with her grandmother, Paula. “Every year when we lived in California, I would come to her house early and bake my birthday cake with her,” notes Reisig. “Cambri is most certainly a cupcake girl,” shares her mom, Leslie.

Last Christmas, Reisig received a Baby Cakes Cupcake Maker from grandmother Paula. Soon after, she and Clark started baking. The machine makes dozens of mini-cupcakes with one batch of mix and leaves decorating to the imagination. The girls use sprinkles, frosting and candy like Whoppers, Heath bars, and Hershey’s chocolate bars to decorate the mini creations.

This summer, Clark received a cupcake machine of her own and both girls added mini donut makers to their baking collections – adding much to their production capabilities. Clark smiles and shares that baking together makes for a great friendship.

Since July, the girls have designed a website, created a sales flier, and have gone door-to-door selling their creations. “They have done this 100 percent on their own,” shares mom Reisig.

Down the road, the girls hope to learn more about customizing batters and frostings to enhance their already delightful offerings. “My favorite show is Cupcake Wars,” shares Reisig as she beams about her simple love of cupcakes.

With just a few days notice, Oh Baby Cakes can create custom decorated goodies for birthday parties, baby showers, holiday parties, book clubs, bunko nights, or just because. Cupcakes range in price from $.25 each to a baker’s dozen for $2 and the cake flavors, frostings, and decoration possibilities are endless.

During the month of December, mention this article and receive three free cupcakes with the purchase of any baker’s dozen. For a complete list of offerings and to learn more, visit www.wix.com/ohbabycakes9/cupcakes or e-mail ohbabycakes5@yahoo.com.
