South Metro firefighters raise more than $100,000 for MDA

Article and photo by Lynn Zahorik

South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) firefighters were met by generous Castle Pines and Castle Rock King Soopers shoppers when they put out their boots in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) Fill the Boot campaign over the beautiful Labor Day weekend.

The spirited annual drive raised $101,564, which will directly benefit life saving measures and programs to combat muscular dystrophy.   The donations collected by our SMFR firefighters will support the MDA Care Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado and University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora and Colorado Springs.  Thanks to the successful fundraiser, many local kids will have the chance to attend MDA summer camp next year.  Visit www.mda.org to learn more.
