Timber Trail Students to “Make” the News

by Celine Hundt

Timber Trail Elementary (TTE) is one of five Douglas County Schools that will participate in the Rocky Mountain PBS mini-television series entitled “Super School News.”

Fifth and sixth graders from each of the five schools – Redstone, Copper Mesa, Heritage, Sedalia and TTE – will gain a new understanding of the world of television broadcasting as they work with a PBS production team to script and design a two-minute television segment about life at their school. When the segments have been thoroughly rehearsed, they will be recorded at the Rocky Mountain PBS Studio.

The segments will air four times daily during an assigned one-week period in the February to April 2007 timeframe. Super School News is broadcast state-wide on Channel 6 in Denver, Channel 8 in Pueblo/Colorado Springs and Channel 18 in Grand Junction.

The taped segments will also be available for viewing at the Rocky Mountain PBS website www.rmpbs.org. The Connection will continue to report on the progress of these budding news anchors in subsequent issues.
