TOP 5 New Years resolutions and how to keep them

By Catalin Varela

After emerging from the self-induced holiday food coma, everyone has their hearts set on creating resolutions to manifest their best year yet. According to TIME magazine, these are some of the most popular New Year’s resolutions that no one can seem to keep…and we’ll talk about how to stick with them.

Eat healthier

This resolution is all about moderation! No one can wake up on January 1 and eat “perfectly” for the rest of their lives…so there is no point in trying. Instead, brainstorm ways to make small, gradual changes in your eating habits, whatever that looks like for you. Thankfully, we have access to some great local health food stores and farmers markets in 80108, so if you have never looked into the healthy eating scene, take a trip to the store and explore. Ultimately, it is important to accept and appreciate yourself wherever you are on your journey.

Lose weight

A relatively manageable resolution in sunny Colorado! No need to drag yourself to the gym every morning; soak up your vitamin D and get active outdoors. See Winter Hiking in Colorado (on page 44) for places to catch the beautiful views and break a sweat.

Be less stressed

Managing stress is a battle we are all fighting! Try limiting the amount of time spent on a cellphone, fueling your body with lots of water and practicing deep breathing when the stress starts to creep in. With so much gorgeous outdoor space, try stepping away from the desk and taking a scenic drive to promote a clear mind.

Spend more time with family

80108, with many family-friendly events happening in the area, is a great place to live if you’re looking to rekindle the connection with your family. Visit our E Guide calendar for a snapshot view of the happenings this month.

Save money

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to break the bank to have a great weekend. Check out our list of 2019 Free Days (page 28 in the E Guide) for activities everyone can enjoy regardless of income.

Lastly, be sure to share your resolutions journey with us on Facebook and Instagram with the handle @CastlePinesConnection.

From all of us at The Castle Pines Connection, we wish you and your family a healthy, happy and joyful 2019.
