American Academy offers teen leadership program

Information provided by American Academy

American Academy (AA) is offering a new extracurricular activity that teaches real-life skills to teens to better prepare them for interacting with peers and adults.

Led by AA parent Kara Good, the Leadership Program for Teens is a highly interactive three-week program developed for sixth through eighth grade students who want to achieve success in school and beyond.

The program is designed to make teens more comfortable inquiring about a summer job like babysitting or mowing lawns, giving a speech in school, or auditioning for a summer play. The program offers students comprehensive instruction in areas such a general leadership, public speaking, and interviewing skills. Students work to gain the confidence they need to face otherwise uncomfortable or difficult situations.

Workshops teach the students through real life examples of role playing and constructive feedback, allowing them to gain the skill and confidence to be able to use and apply what they have learned immediately.

The program runs May 10 through May 26, every Monday and Wednesday after school from 3:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The registration deadline is May 3.
