Castle Pines kids participate in fifth annual Tri the Rock

The fifth annual Tri the Rock brought the most participants yet. With 416 kids from ages 5 through 14, the Castle Pines community was once again well represented in what has become a much-anticipated event for the Town of Castle Rock.
Castle Pines North resident Will Steffe was the second boy to finish the race in the 13-14 year old category. For his race he had to swim 100 meters, bike 8 kilometers and run 2 kilometers. Awards were given for the top three finishes in each age group.
Each athlete pays a $35 entry fee to participate and $10 of this fee is returned to the athlete’s home school to help fund the local school’s physical education programs. This year the event raised more than $4,000. The rest of the money raised benefits youth sports programs offered by the Town of Castle Rock. The school with the most participants wins a party at the Castle Rock Recreation leisure pool and gets to display a traveling trophy at the school until the next year’s event.
