City to Host Sales Tax Seminars for Local Businesses

by Lane Roberts

The 2.75 percent city sales tax approved by the citizens of the City of Castle Pines North (CPN) in November 2007 is set to go into effect as of July 1, 2008. (see article on page 1)

The City Council has enacted a sales tax ordinance designed to be consistent with existing State and County sales tax reporting forms. The approach will mean a simple additional schedule for businesses filing sales tax returns. As before, tax returns will be filed with the State of Colorado, which will collect the sales tax on behalf of the City. The City will require a sales tax license for each merchant or home-based business. The cost of the license is $10 per year or $5 per half year.

Castle Pines North City Treasurer Doug Gilbert, will hold a series of seminars for businesses and home-based businesses to discuss licensing and filing requirements. The seminars will provide an overview of the City sales tax, as well as the total composition of sales taxes paid within CPN.

The tax seminars are planned for Monday, June 23 at 8 a.m., and Thursday, June 26 at 2 p.m. Both seminars will be held at the new Daz Bog Coffee (located in the King Soopers Shopping Center) on the corner of Lagae Road and Castle Pines Parkway.
