Kids camps promote wellness and fun!

By Elean Gersack

Kids in Castle Pines have a new and fun way to get active this winter. Evolve Lifestyle Fitness (Evolve) has teamed up with the Buffalo Ridge Elementary School (BRE) before and afterschool program (BASE) to offer weekly kids fitness classes to the entire community. The classes are open to all kids in grades kindergarten through fifth.

Paige Taylor, personal trainer and owner of Evolve, is passionate about setting the stage for wellness at an early age. She plans to start each class with basic rules and a healthy choice lesson for the day.

Using balls, jump ropes, dance moves, nutrition trivia and action, the kids will get moving and start exercising as a team without even knowing they are doing it. “Instead of a basic freeze-tag game, kids will name fruits and veggies to get untagged – it will make it fun!” Taylor said.

Classes meet in the BRE gymnasium from 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. each Thursday between now and March 22.

The camp themes are —

Wii Just Dance (2/2 and 2/9);
Kool Kids Kickboxing (2/16 and 2/23);
Big Fun Bootcamp (3/1 and 3/8); and
Yoga for Kids (3/15 and 3/22).

Each two-week camp runs $20 per child. An optional $14 per two-week camp covers the cost for after-care from 5:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the BASE program.

“We have some great plans to keep the kids active and hopefully bring the BASE program at Buffalo Ridge and the Castle Pines community just a little bit closer,” said David Bowman, director of the BRE BASE Program.
