The seventh grade Adventurer’s team from Rocky Heights recently participated in a statewide spring Stock Market Game sponsored by the Colorado Council for Economic Education. The Adventurer’s entered 33 teams into the competition and competed on both a regional and state level. The kids took the top three spots in the regional competition, and placed second and third at the state level.

The 33 teams worked together to choose at least five companies to research and invest in, and then tracked the progress of their investments. They learned lifelong skills including critical thinking, decision-making, cooperation, communication, independent research, saving and investing.

The team, which placed first in the region and second in the state, chose to invest in Weight Watchers, Verizon, and Apple, and their efforts paid off. Math teacher, Lanita Davis, said, “Hopefully this experience of playing the stock market game has sparked an interest in the stock market for many years to come!”
