The Timber Team, Timber Trail Elementary’s (TTE) student council, had some money in its bank account. Funds raised last year by the group during a Valentine’s Day lollipop sale were earmarked for a good cause, and when Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast, Timber Team knew what to do.

“We had several e-mails from Timber Trail families asking what the school was going to do, and this seemed like a great way to help,” said Kristen WardBrown, a fifth grade teacher at TTE. “One of the kids on Timber Team told me that this made her feel less helpless about aiding others in the aftermath of the storm.”

In order to stretch its money, Timber Team spent a week collecting donations before school and pledged to match all donations, up to $1,000, with money from their bank account.

“I feel proud to be helping with something like this,” said fourth grader and Timber Team member Emma Ziegler.
