At home in their mountain home
Gary and Paula Ellermann, newcomers to The Village at Castle Pines, met in high school in New Orleans.
Gary reflected, “Paula crushed me in high school. I was already insecure!”
Paula’s family relocated to Colorado, where she finished high school and attended college at Colorado State University. Meanwhile, Gary was attending Louisiana Tech (LT), majoring in architecture, but had to look for a new architecture school when LT lost its accreditation. After being separated for two years, Gary and Paula reconnected on a trip he took to Colorado in 1976.
In 1980, Gary finished his degree in architecture at Tulane University and the couple married and moved to Littleton. Two adult children later, Emily (37) and Andrew (32), the Ellermanns celebrated 44 years of marriage last year and decided to downsize to Castle Pines. And it was an adventure.
Gary, a principal for Mulhern Group in Denver, remarked, “We had our eyes on a house that fell through, and our house in Littleton had already sold. So, we ended up living in a 24-foot RV with our 92-pound Bernadoodle, Humphries, for three months while waiting to purchase a different home in the Village.”
Paula, soon to retire as a sales consultant for Alerus Financial, refers to Humphries as “cutie patootie” and spends a lot of time working. The couple attends the Colorado Church in Denver, which just had its second anniversary in its new building. The Ellermanns played a big part in bringing the church’s new building to fruition.
In their downtime, the Ellermanns enjoy travel, skiing, Bible studies and, most importantly, meeting new people by attending and hosting social gatherings. Their move missed the window for the recent Village neighborhood directory, but they would like to connect with their neighbors nonetheless.
Gary, also a member of Village Castle Pines Garden Club, commented, “We want to know everyone in Castle Pines and make as many friends as we can!”
The Ellermanns refer to their new place as their “mountain home.” They greatly enjoy the beauty and wildlife in their neighborhood, from the wild turkeys to the herds of elk. Paula commented, “It’s just so nice here, and people are friendly and easy to get to know.”
Gary remarked, “We feel so incredibly blessed and have to pinch ourselves to be reminded that we really live here!” To reach the Ellermans, email Gary at gellermann@themulherngroup.com.
