Ten-year-old Taylor Muckel loves to read. So it’s not surprising that one of her favorite places in town is the Castle Pines Library.

“We are there all the time,” said Taylor. “We did the summer reading program and I just love all the great books there.”

When Taylor heard that fundraising efforts were underway to raise money to keep the library open, she knew she had to do her part. She enlisted the help of her younger brother, Kyle, age eight, and her friend, nine-year-old Kara Lencke and got to work.

“Kyle and Kara and I made lemonade and set up a stand to sell lemonade and soda. We let our friends know and they came to buy drinks and people stopped when they saw us in our neighborhood,” said Taylor.

After just two hours, Taylor, Kyle and Kara had made $36, which was promptly donated to the Library’s fundraising campaign.

Kara is looking forward to many more happy hours at the library.

“I love mysteries and books about music. Every time I read, I learn something fun and interesting,” she said.

Special thanks to mom, Alison Muckel, who sent the following e-mail to our editor:

“A couple days ago my daughter and I read your article about the library needing to raise $100,000 to be able to keep the library open for another year. So she and her brother woke up this morning and said that she was going to have a lemonade sale to raise money for the library. I’ll keep you posted and let you know how much they make and we will take it to the library on Monday! Maybe you could use if for your next edition?”
