Neighborhood garden club takes time to celebrate

Michele Volkl and other members of the CPV Garden Club modeled beautiful clothing during the fashion show at the annual May luncheon. Volkl remarked, “Being a relatively new member, I have treasured becoming a part of this fine organization of talented, dedicated, and caring women who not only enjoy having a lot of fun but also enjoy working together to give back to the community and charitable organizations.”

The Castle Pines Village (CPV) Garden Club celebrated another successful year at its annual luncheon at the Castle Pines Golf Club in May. Forty-eight women attended and enjoyed great company, wonderful food, and a fashion show of beautiful clothing from Delish Demure clothing boutique in Greenwood Village.

The Club has grown considerably since it began in 1994. A love of gardening and socializing is what binds the group together, and the club hosts events throughout the year to meet those needs. The Club year runs from June to May and events include luncheons in September, December and May, and educational programs and field trips throughout the rest of the year. The Club is also involved in several charitable organizations and hosts fundraisers each year.

The Club maintains two public perennial gardens in the area. The Serenity Garden is a xeriscape demonstration garden located inside Castle Pines Village on Village Lake, and the Tweet Kimball Memorial Garden is located at Cherokee Ranch and Castle.

Socializing is an important aspect of the Club and spontaneous “wine in the garden” events occur often during the beautiful summer and fall months, with e-mail blasts going out to all members with a location and date to gather and enjoy a member’s garden. “We have learned to be careful when telling someone that our garden/patio/yard looks spectacular, because suddenly all fingers point to you and everyone says “wine in the garden” as if it were a game of tag!” remarked Club President Pamela Elston.

The Club is always looking for new members, and members need not live in Castle Pines Village. To learn more, or to become a member, please visit www.cpvgc.org
