One doesn’t have to be very old to understand when others are in need. Tyler Joy Tankersley, a seven-year-old from Noble Ridge, got inspired to help victims in Haiti. She reached out to her fellow neighbors to help support Project Cure and the Mile High for Haiti Project by collecting basic medical supplies.

With the help of her mom, Tyler typed up a note and hand-delivered one to all of her neighbors in Noble Ridge. The note asked families to consider donating or purchasing new medical items like bandages,
peroxide, gauze, and tape.

Neighbors could simply place the bag on their front porch on Saturday morning, February 6. Tyler would then stop by and pick up the items and deliver the whole batch to the collection station at Walmart.

“I think this will help them [the people in Haiti] so it will be a better place. I feel bad for them because they got really sick,” said Tyler.

Tyler was able to collect even more supplies when her Brownie Troop #1891 voted to donate its collection of “quarter money” to her cause on February 4.

Quarter money is a collection of quarters raised by the Brownies when every girl brings in one quarter to each meeting. The girls are able to decide how to donate the money. Tyler received $30 in quarter money and used it to buy supplies at the dollar store.

“We are excited by her heart for Haiti. This is such a wonderful project for her to represent our family and take charge,” said Tyler’s mom, Shannon.
