Students complete emergency drill

Students participate in a mock drill to get life-like training to complete their certification and for a potential career in emergency services.
Newly-certified students at Rock Canyon High School’s Emergency Services (ES) program completed their training with a large-scale, mock drill last month at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) driver training facility. Criminal justice, emergency medical services and fire science comprise the ES classes.
Several community, state and federal partners participated in the drill, including the Colorado Army National Guard, DCSO, South Metro Fire Rescue and UCHealth.
“For the students, this exercise gives them the opportunity to take what they learn in class throughout the year and apply it in a life-like, practical manner alongside industry professionals,” stated EMS teacher Mathew Rice, who said they plan the drill with DCSO for an entire year.
