Douglas County is currently involved in two major roadway projects that will make access from the Castle Pines community east to Parker much easier in the coming months. The I-25 / Castle Pines Parkway interchange will extend on the east side of I-25 to connect with Hess Road in Parker, and the RidgeGate / I-25 interchange will continue east of I-25 to connect to Main Street in Parker. Both projects will provide much needed relief to traffic congestion on the existing east-west connector, Lincoln Boulevard.

Hess Road Extension Project

The Hess Road Extension project is a cooperation between Douglas County, the Town of Parker, Parker Water and Sanitation District, the City of Castle Pines North, North Canyons LLLP, Judge Inc, Pivital Colorado, Inc, and Freshfields, Inc. The Hess Road Extension project (formerly Stroh Road Extension project) was originally slated to connect Castle Pines Parkway with Stroh Road, but realignment was necessary following the expansion of the Rueter-Hess Reservoir.

Phase one (east phase) of the project began in October 2009 and is scheduled to be complete sometime later this month. Phase one extends from Chambers Road in Parker west 1.42 miles and joins with phase two (west phase), which broke ground May 17 and is scheduled to be completed in September 2011.

Phase two will extend west 3.63 miles to connect with the frontage road at Castle Pines Parkway and I-25. The Hess Road Extension project will ultimately be a four-lane arterial roadway, but only two-lanes (one in each direction) are being constructed at this time. It is not anticipated that the county will expand Hess Road to four-lanes in the near future, most likely between the range of 2020 to 2030. Ridgegate Parkway East to Mainstreet Extension

Douglas County, the City of Lone Tree, Shea Properties, Meridian Metro Districts, Rampart Range Metro District, and Coventry Development will be partnering to extend Ridgegate Parkway East to Mainstreet in Parker.

The City of Lone Tree will manage the design and construction of phase one of the project, which consists of the extension of Ridgegate Parkway East between I-25 and Peoria Street (0.24 Miles) and Peoria Street between Crescent Moon Parkway to Ridgegate Parkway East (0.51 Miles). The county will manage the design and construction of phase two of the project, consisting of the extension of Ridgegate Parkway East to Mainstreet between Peoria Street and Meridian Village Parkway (1.95 Miles).

It is anticipated that the City of Lone Tree will begin construction on phase one of the project and the county will begin construction of phase two of the project in early spring 2010. As of press time, groundbreaking for phase two was scheduled for May 25. It is the goal of the City of Lone Tree and Douglas County to open the new roadway to traffic by the end of 2010.
