AA students delight Castle Rock seniors with trees of thanks

A Thanksgiving meal from the Volunteers of America was heartily enjoyed at the Castle Rock Senior Center on November 22 with AA student,  Michael Basey, helping to dish out the eats. Seniors were thrilled to have the trees of thanks adorning the tables and plan to reuse them again next fall.

American Academy’s (AA’s) third grade class showed their depth of character this fall season by sharing blessings and good thoughts with the seniors in their community.  As part of their Fall Festival activities, each of the 109 students wrote personal messages on autumn colored leaves which extended a good wish or happy thought for all of the members of the Castle Rock Senior Center.

Messages included thoughts of good health, happy holidays and thankfulness for each member of their community.  The leaves were then attached to small tree bases which created decorative, autumn tree centerpieces.

On November 15, a dozen table centerpieces were delivered to the Castle Rock Senior Center to adorn their activity room tables where the members eat lunches, play games and gather for social events.  The seniors were delighted to see the children’s decorations and were truly touched by the genuine wishes for happiness.

Third grade teacher Jacki Christy said, “We are so proud that our exceptional students chose to demonstrate this month’s core virtue of responsibility by creating an opportunity that keeps two generations connected through mutual respect and appreciation.”
