The Douglas County Dolphins had not one, but two Super Bowl Championship teams this year with lots of Castle Pines residents on both teams at the AYL Super Bowl on November 12. The Dolphin Silver 6U team and the Dolphin Purple 7Y teams both took the title to wrap up their undefeated seasons.

The Dolphin 6U team consisted of 19 first graders – seven of whom live in Castle Pines – attending Timber Trail Elementary, Buffalo Ridge Elementary, American Academy, and Cherry Hills. The six- and seven-year-old residents, Zach Misuraca, Cayden Branish, Connor White, Drew Petersen, Fisher Smith, Gavin Hunt and Brody Bliek were not only adjusting to all-day school for the first time this fall and that new thing called homework, they were also knuckling down in their first year of tackle football.

All seven boys are outstanding students who went on the football field as starters and ended up as part of the undefeated Dolphin Silver 6U football team with a record of 9-0. Under the leadership of Coach Todd Stott and Castle Pines resident Assistant Coaches Jim Misuraca and Scott Branish, the young team went on to the Super Bowl, held at Regis High School on Saturday, November 12, where they won in a shut out game against the Montebello Falcons with a score of 24-0.

The Dolphin Purple 7Y team, also with 19 players who are predominantly Castle Pines residents, were in their third season this year. Dolphin Purple 7Y went to the Super Bowl all three seasons and took the championship for their second consecutive season this year under Coach Travis Holles and Assistant Coaches Jeff Rosendahl, Archie Anderson, and Todd Rafter. They also played their Super Bowl game against the Montebello Falcons and wrapped up their 9-0 season with a winning score of 22-12.

7Y Coach Holles said, “We keep it simple and focus on the little things; fundamentals, attitude, and effort.  In the end, we keep the experience in perspective and if we win, great! We teach them how to win with class. And if we lose, we teach the boys how to lose with class, because winning and losing are parts of life.  Their attitude and effort can actually help determine which it will be.”

6U Assistant Coach Misuraca commented, “This group of boys learned a lot about football and a lot about team work this season. I’m very proud of them for having such a positive attitude!”

One of the players, Connor White, broke his arm (off the field), which ended his playing time up until Super Bowl. In spite of that, White made it to every practice to cheer on his team and support the coaching staff with a great attitude and great sportsmanship.

6U player, Zach Misuraca, resident of Green Briar, commented, “Football was so much fun! I don’t want it to be over!” In fact, the morning following the Super Bowl, Zach told his mom that he wanted to go to football practice.
