It’s a wrap at Buffalo Ridge

Buffalo Ridge Elementary School (BRE) students and teachers enjoyed the last weeks of school with plenty of learning and lots of fun. Here’s a look at the last weeks of the school year and some of the great memories that were made.

Fittin’ It In 5K in-house winners
BRE celebrated two of its own speed racers from the Douglas County School District’s Fittin’ It In 5K on April 28. Third grader, Libby O., came in first place in the girls six- to nine-year-old competition and fourth grader, Caleb J., placed third in the boys ten- to-fourteen-year-old competition.

Dream Team Talent Show Shines
Students of all ages took part in the bi-annual variety show hosted by the Dream Team on May 10. From singing and skits to gymnastics and hoops, this show had it all.

Ridgeline Rolls to Brunswick
Fourth and fifth grade Ridgeline online newspaper reporters took a break from writing to celebrate the end of the year at Brunswick Zone on May 10. The students bowled a few games and played a round of boys against girls laser tag.

Dream Team Escapes to Elitches
The BRE student philanthropy organization, Dream Team, took a trip to Elitch Gardens on May 17. These first through fifth grade students enjoyed an outing together after spending the year raising awareness, hope and funds for many worthy organizations such as – Alex’s Lemonade Stand, First Love Church, The Salvation Army, Project Uganda, and the Castle Pines Library.

Staff Appreciation and Fifth Grade Farewell Lunch
Teachers and staff were thoroughly pampered during staff appreciation week in early May and enjoyed a farewell luncheon hosted by outgoing fifth grade families on May 16.

TCAP Success
BRE celebrated third grade reading Transitional Colorado Assessment Program (TCAP) scores with 88 percent of students scoring in the proficient or advanced range. Within the Rock Canyon High School feeder area, BRE ranked second for proficient/advanced and first for advanced scores (15 percent).

Continuation
Fifth graders said goodbye to elementary school on May 22 and May 23 during individual continuation ceremonies. There were not many dry eyes in the crowd as students celebrated this right of passage with special speeches, slideshows and movies.
